Medical Careers lead to Job Security
|
|
Are you looking for an interesting, challenging career with great growth potential and plenty of job opportunities? Medical careers are in demand in the Flagler/Volusia county areas as well as throughout the country. With the aging of America, the demand for medical services continues to increase.
The medical field is a career area that can be accessed from a variety of levels and/or specialties depending on your personal interests, educational resources and the amount of time available to prepare for a career. If you enjoy taking care of people and the sight of blood does not make you queasy, there is a tremendous demand for Nurses, both Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) and Registered Nurses (RN). Many places need Nurses so badly that they are offering a sign-on bonus to come to work for them. If you are unsure you would enjoy this type of work, you need few credentials to apply for a job in a Nursing Home to try it out or you could attend short term training to become a Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.) or Home Health Aide. These positions are so in demand that many local Nursing Homes offer free training. They will train you as a C.N.A. in exchange for your agreement to remain employed with them for one year after completion of training. If you decide that you like this type of work and want to upgrade your skills there are a number of medical career training programs available locally that are in demand. Depending on your own aptitudes and interests; Patient Care Assistant, Surgical Assistant, Radiology Technologist, Respiratory Therapy, Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Emergency Medical Technician and Paramedic are just a few of the options. These occupations are all direct patient care specialties.
However, if you do not feel you would enjoy physically caring for people or if the thought of dressing a wound or giving a shot leaves you ill, there is still a place for you in the medical field. Medical Records and Health Information Technicians are also in demand. Possibilities in this area include medical office support workers such as Health Unit Coordinators, Office Managers, Medical Secretaries, Medical Records Transcriptionists or Health Information Managers.
If a career in the medical field sounds interesting and you would like to find out more about these opportunities; the One Stop Employment Center or local educational institutions can provide current labor market information concerning the growth rate and income potential of these jobs as well as provide career resources to guide you in making an informed decision.
