Networking

Networking is one of the major keys to find a good job. Networking is simply informing friends and contacts that you are in the job market and would appreciate if they would let others know. It is communicating and tapping into all available resources.

Contact your friends and ask them to let you know of any possible job openings. As a friend, they will network for you by asking other friends about opportunities. Do not take for granted that the people you come in contact with will know to ask about job opportunities for you. Be specific and request this from them. Ask them about leads.

Attend association meetings. If you are looking for a job in human resources, attend one of the Society of Human Resource Managers (SHRM) meetings. If you are interested in public relations, go to a local Florida Public Relations Association (FPRA) meeting. Look in the public meeting sections of the newspapers. Look on the Internet. Find out where the people who have the job you want are going to be and be there. Take a short-term class about your job interests or computers or anything related. The more you and your name are out there, the more people will keep you in mind when they hear of job opportunities.

Finding a job in today’s job market is a full-time job in and of itself!! Networking increases your area of coverage. You might enjoy yourself!
