Tips on Applications
What you need to know!
|
Remember, an application is a marketing tool for you to
use to make a good first impression. Use it to tell the
prospective employer about yourself, what type of job you
are looking for and what skills you have to do the job.
It’s important to know that employers typically use
the job application as a tool to screen applicants for the
next step, the interview.
A well completed application will convince the employer
that your skills are not limited to your prior job responsibilities.
Show off your good work ethic! Being dependable, having
good interpersonal skills and showing initiative are as
important to employers as the tasks you can perform. Make
sure that information is suggested in the application information
you provide.
Keep in mind that neatness does count in an application
and so does spelling and grammar. Accurate and updated information
are important, too! This is your first chance to make a
good impression!
Information you will need to know about yourself prior
to filling out an application includes: employment and educational
history, military experience and references, as well as
personal information such as your social security number.
Remember! An application is a legal document. It must be
truthful! A good practice is to complete a generic application
with all the correct information. Carry it with you while
you apply to jobs. This will insure that you won’t
be changing dates by relying on faulty memory or having
to ask for a phone book! Being prepared with correct information
is viewed favorably by the potential employer!
References are also important on a job application. Be
sure to ask before using someone as a reference. Make sure
it is OK to give out their name and number.
Now that you are more informed, give these tips a try!
Good luck!
