GETTING TO WORK WITH TAX FREE DOLLARS

For many Volusia County residents getting to work is not as simple as getting in a car and driving to work. For various reasons, many people must find alternative transportation to arrive at work. Volusia County’s Public Transit System (VOTRAN) offers a variety of alternatives.

These services includes:
• Regular Route Service
• Gold (Para-transit) Service
• A1A Beachside Trolley
• Commuter Assistance Programs

Commuter Assistance Program
To assist Volusia County residents with their daily commute whether that trip is within Volusia County or requires traveling to a neighboring county VOTRAN has introduced 4 new programs to benefit employees and employers.

• Volusia/Orlando I-4 Express
• Park and Ride Lots
• Ride Share Matching
• Van Pooling

In addition to the ability to use the various services provided by Volusia County’s Public Transportation System to get to work, employees and employers can benefit financially. According to Kiplinger’s Personal Finance Magazine, “Rarely does an employee benefit save both the employee and employer money. But through a great twist of the tax code, you may be able to commute with tax free dollars, and save your boss tax dollars, too.”

The Transit Commuter Benefits program allows employers or employees to pay for commuting costs up to $100.00 per month with pre-tax dollars. The benefit allows both employers and employees to save money.
