New Recruitment Tool Available for Businesses

The Center for Business Excellence. (WDB) is pleased to announce the unveiling of two new web-based services for businesses. Chanh Tran, MIS Coordinator for the WDB has developed a program that will allow local businesses to post job openings in the system and, through a job matching system, locate and access resumes of qualified applicants on the Internet.

“We’re proud of the work Chanh has done in developing these tools. Professionals in our industry are already discussing his contribution and are contacting us for further information on the systems he has developed”, said Rick Fraser, President of the WDB.

The systems have already been put to the test by several local businesses in preparation for the unveiling. The WDB IT department will continue to work with businesses to improve the new services.

Lee A. Dumas, Director of Human Resources at Creative Awards and Nameplates, Inc., was one of the first to be introduced to the new services. “I was impressed with the overall design for several reasons. The system was easy to access and it was simple to post a comprehensive job order. The features that provide for a match to available candidates and allow for a review of interested applicants will prove to be extremely useful tools.”

Highlights of the new services include:

  • the ability for registered businesses to post job openings, hiring needs information and employment placements with the One-Stop Employment Center from any computer with internet access;
  • a registration process that allows job-seekers to input their employment-related data into the system;
  • an online resume building tool, that registers job-seeker resumes into the system for employer access. This service can also be accessed from any computer with internet capabilities;
  • a Business Services database that assists staff to track and manage the job posting and service needs of businesses in the region;
  • a job matching component that interfaces all four databases and incorporates the federal O*NET coding required by the state, allowing the information to inter-relate seamlessly for upload into a state database. This completely automated system links job-seekers to jobs by individual job opening for the employer, by individual registration for the job-seeker and globally for One-Stop staff working with both businesses and clients and includes a tickler system that provides reports to both staff and businesses when job matches have been made.

Use of the new services is provided at no cost to registered businesses. Businesses interested in registering may contact the Business Services Unit of the One-Stop Employment Center at (386) 323-7008.

Interested job-seekers may access the services directly on the website or by visiting their local One-Stop Employment Center. More than 800 job openings are already posted to the new system.

WDB Partners with Economic Development

The Center for Business Excellence. (WDB-FVC, Inc.) has recently joined Volusia County Department of Economic Development, chambers of commerce, municipal representatives and local business leaders in recruiting efforts to attract new business to Volusia County. In 2003, the WDB-FVC, Inc. staff have attended trade shows in Boston, New York City and Washington, D.C. Another is scheduled in Atlanta in October. Focus, to date, has been on recruiting medical industries into the area.

“Supporting economic development efforts is a main priority for workforce development systems statewide. We’re working to do all we can to support these initiatives locally”, stated Rick Fraser, President of the WDB-FVC, Inc.

According to Fraser, WDB-FVC, Inc. staff have also participated in Volusia County Department of Economic Development meetings and presentations with employers who have visited the area as a result of recruiting efforts.

“One of the top three questions employers ask about relates to the skill level of the local workforce and educational and training opportunities in the area. That’s where the WDB-FVC, Inc. can assist. Beyond employee recruitment assistance services, these are the areas we can coordinate to meet their needs,” added Fraser.

The WDB-FVC, Inc. has not limited its support of Economic Development efforts to Volusia County alone. Enterprise Flagler has gained the usage of a WDB-FVC, Inc. One-Stop Employment Center Business Services representative two days per week. The sharing of staff is an attempt to assist Flagler to monitor the needs of the Flagler County business community. The Business Services representative will be directly involved in surveying businesses and assisting with area business retention needs.
