It can be challenging for supervisors to manage employees from differing backgrounds and at the same time, keep morale and productivity high. Here are a few tips to help build a positive work environment for all employees.

  • Avoid offensive terms when referring to varying cultures or races.
  • Place new employees with mentors from similar backgrounds, if possible
  • Research diverse backgrounds and cultures of your employees.
  • Be patient with differing work habits until the employee becomes comfortable in the new environment.
  • Provide diversity training for all employees.
  • Establish open lines of communication so that employees feel comfortable asking questions about policy and procedure.
